Empire State of Mind

I’ve finally arrived in NYC! New York is definitely one of my favourite cities in the world – talk about the rich history and character this city offers! As soon as I arrived, I went straight to shopping and site-seeing. The food here is amazing, and you can get anywhere you want – Uber, taxi, subway....you name it! This city brings a lot of energy and excitement and I wish I could have stayed here longer.

I have decided to change the direction of my blog a little. Instead of just focusing on menswear, I want to transcend simply fashion and extend to further platforms. Travelling to different countries and meeting new people every month would be a fun project for me don't you think? Working with local talents such as fashion/food bloggers and photographers would not only allow me to have fun, but also I will get to learn other cultures more extensively as well.

Before I came to New York, I contacted Nick Pierce , a NYC based photographer, to work on some photoshoot projects with me. I’ve been a fan of Nick’s work for a long time and to be able to work with him was definitely a highlight of my trip. For my outfit, I selected a grey 3-piece suit and a topcoat for a chilly day in Soho. I’ve always wanted to wear a 3-piece since the occasion is very rare. I was also influenced by Suits, a tv-series that I’ve been obsessed with recently. In the show, most people wear 3-piece suits and the show is also filmed in New York. You can say today's outfit is Suits-inspired.

The whole purpose of this post was to share with you guys one of the methods I use to effortlessly mix-n-match my outfits without breaking a sweat. For those of you who work in an office that requires you to wear a suit, sometimes changing for events after work is inconvenient - I have a solution for you: take off your blazer and wear a different jacket! (tie is optional). So after my first shoot with Nick in Soho, we decided to travel down to Brooklyn Bridge Park for our second shoot. It was very early in the morning and I didn't feel like going back to my hotel room to change again. So I decided to just take off the blazer I was wearing and put on a very edgy-looking leather biker jacket. This actually works, and wearing a new jacket does seem like you just changed into an entirely new outfit! You get the sophisticated backdrop of the suit but at the same time the slick centerpiece that is the leather jacket. There are also many other types of outerwear you can replace your blazer with for various looks: varsity jacket, denim jacket, bomber jacket, peacoat, topcoat, etc.

All you menswear enthusiasts out there, don't be afraid to change things up a bit! See you next time.
